John Lamar Chilton, 83, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Springfield, Mo.

Born Feb. 8, 1923, in Braggadocio, Mo., son of the late Ed and Orean Turner Chilton, he attended Braggadocio School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed at AmerenUE in Potosi, Mo., and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Lion's Club, and Rotary Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Jonnie Cross and husband, Donald, of Springfield and Demetra Franklin, of Potosi; two brothers, Glen Chilton, of Osceola, Ark., and Bill Chilton, of St. Louis, Mo., and three grandchildren, Paul Johnecheck, of Springfield, Scott Cross, of Nixa, Mo., and Jo Walker-Clark, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edd and Bob Chilton and one grandson, Mark Johnecheck.

Memorial services with full military honors were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in the Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville, Mo., with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.
