Palestine Welty, 87, of Kennett, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Nov. 18, 1918, in Kennett, daughter of the late Walter and Janie Williams Summers, she was a member of the Slicer Street Church of Christ.
On Sept. 18, 1931, she married Elza Welty, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1974. She was also preceded in death by one son and daughter-in-law, Walter V. and LaTreva Welty; two sisters, Mabel Reeves and Lucille Summers; grandson and wife, Ricky and Debra Gatewood and two nieces.
Survivors include one son, Danny Lee Welty and wife, Leslie, of Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Shirley Harris and husband, Richard, of Ada, Okla.; three sisters, Alverta Waltrip, of Campbell, Mo., Rosetta Wayne, of Kennett and Mary Tucker, of Machesney Park, Ill.; a brother-in-law; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m., today, Tuesday, March 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Spencer Furby officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Gary and Perry Wayne, Bruce Tucker, and Terry, Larry, Nicholas and Carlos Welty.
Honorary pallbearer was Keith Tucker.
