Born Jan. 26, 1931, in Hayti, son of the late Mattie Tannie and Hermie Lee Miller McCoy, he was a graduate of Hayti High School and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Frisco Railroad and Burlington Northern.
On April 4, 1954, in Hayti, he married Alice Dawn Priest, who preceded him in death on July 22, 1985. He was also preceded in death by one son, Randy McCoy; five sisters, Connie Shuford, Virginia Hudgens, Ruth Murphy, Floreda "Tiny" McCoy and Hattie McCoy and two brothers, James Ramon "Jake" and Mattie Roy McCoy.
Survivors include three children, Robert D. "Dave" McCoy and wife, Sharon, of Mound City, Ill., Teresa Dawn Volner and husband, Clinton, of Lesterville, Mo., and Kevin McCoy, of Hayti; one sister, Peggy Womack and husband, Kenneth, of Jonesboro, Ark., and one grandson, Clayton Joseph Volner, of Lesterville.
Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti with the Rev. Rob Titus officiating.
Pallbearers were A.G. Franks, Jr., Joel Nobles, Tommy Popham, Maurice Redden, Steve Carnell and Mark Wells.
Honorary pallbearer was Dale Williams.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
