Patricia Shade Slentz, 79, lifelong resident of Caruthersville, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mrs. Slentz was born Dec. 18, 1926, at Quincy, Ill., only child of the late Grace A. Brady Shade and Leonard Swanson Shade. Mrs. Slentz was married on May 16, 1948, to Mr. Frank E. Slentz at the First Presbyterian Church in Caruthersville.
Mrs. Slentz attended Caruthersville Public School, transferring her junior year in 1943 to Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Miss. She attended M.S.C.W. for two years and transferred to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., for one and 1/2 years, returning to M.S.C.W. to graduate in 1947, with a double major in English and Speech. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at Purdue University. After graduation she returned to Caruthersville where she taught high school English at Wardell High School in 1948. In later years she taught English and Speech and substituted in the local school district. She was a member of the Tuesday afternoon bridge club and a charter member of the Thursday afternoon bridge club.
Mrs. Slentz is survived by her husband, Frank Slentz, of the home; a daughter, Ellie Slentz Clayton and husband, Dwight, of Caruthersville; a son, Pat Shade Slentz and wife, Tina, of Caruthersville; grandchildren, Jennifer Slentz Agostinelli, of Madison, Miss., Lori Slentz Berry, of Robinsonville, Miss., and Hank Clayton, of Caruthersville and great-grandchildren, Mary Morgan and Amelia Agostinelli, both of Madison and Caroline, Emma Jane and Curt Berry, all of Robinsonville.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, with Dr. Paul Currie officiating. Interment was in the Little Prairie Cemetery.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of services.
