Mark Horton, singer and recording artist, will be in concert at First Baptist Church located at 300 St. Francis St., on Sunday evening.

Horton is from Bartlett, Tenn., and is related to the Horton family of Kennett who owns Horton's Barbecue.

"Oh, yes, Horton's Barbecue, I think the sauce runs through our veins," laughed Horton.

He is a frequent soloist on the Love Worth Finding Network and in the Memphis Passion Play. He also has and continues to be involved as a performer in the Singing Christmas Tree at Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn.

In 2004 and 2005 Horton visited South America and performed there with the Passion Play. He was able to use his talent for singing as well as display his acting ability while performing there.

Horton has been married to his wife Gina for 28 years and has two children, Matt and Erin, who are both in college at the University of Memphis.

He described his own childhood and youth as a lot of fun because the entire family was involved in church and he vividly remembers singing with his mom, dad, and little sister.

"I have been singing and performing in general since I was old enough to stand up," Horton said.

He recorded an album in 2003 produced by Mak Kaylor through MK Music and is excited about the recent release of his new CD titled, "Beyond What I Can See."

"I am constantly working and staying busy with music, it's exciting," he said.

The concert that will take place at First Baptist will be held at 6 p.m. and a love offering will be taken.
