Born Feb. 5, 1923, in Muhlenberg County, Ky., son of the late Homer and Minerva Boggess Latham Sweeney, he was an auto body technician, a minister and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in WWII. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy of Hopkinsville.
On Aug. 7, 1940, he married Mary Holmes, who survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Dora Jane Skyles, of Kennett; one son, Roy Daniel Sweeney, of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mabel Burchfield, of Godfrey, Ill.; one half-brother, J.W. Latham, of Union, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elaine Hull and one grandson, Vernon Edward Skyles.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the Hughart and Beard Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Eldridge officiating.
Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery at Hopkinsville.
