Born Dec. 19, 1924, in Shirley, Choctaw Co., Ark., son of the late William Thomas and Plummer Jane Dowdy Brown, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, where he received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. He was a farmer and owner/operator of Brown's Grocery.
On Sept. 24, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., he married Syble Avinell Dill, who survives.
Survivors also include his children, Oather Don Brown and wife, Freda, of Geiger, Ala., Shirley Kay Davis and husband, Jack, of Millersville, Mo., Ronnie Dale Brown, Cleo Brown and wife, Angie, and Betty Jan Gawthrop, all of Hayti, Billy Wayne Brown and wife, JoBeth, of Atoka, Tenn., Janna Elaina Rhodes, of Naylor, Mo., and Beverly Ann Baker, of Caruthersville; one brother, William Onis Brown, of Sikeston, Mo.; one sister, Helen Dean Boze, of Bell City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. Doug Wahls officiating.
Burial was held in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo.
Pallbearers were DeWayne Shelly, Robert Lewis, Sonny Turnage, Alan Newman, Clint Pery and George Merrell IV.
Honorary pallbearers were James Klinkhardt, Roy Cooper, Joe Brooks, Wayne Kincade, Rickey Laster, Mike Davidson, Robert Newman, Bobby Irions and Martin Ray.
