Florence Dillard

Florence Mae Dillard, 98, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born Feb. 24, 1907, in Baton Rouge, La., daughter of the late James Monroe and Rose Anna Sumpter, she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Congregational in Hayti Heights, Mo.

In July, 1945, she married Charles Lee Dillard, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by five children.

Survivors include one son, George C. Andrews, of Chicago, Ill.; five daughters, Rose A. Stewart, of Cleveland, Ohio, Willie M. Redmond, of Pontiac, Mich., Florence Magdaleno and Bobbye Holloway and husband, Will, all of Chicago and Matilda Dillard, of Hayti; one sister, Elder Katie B. Johnson, of Chicago; 33 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ Congregational in Hayti Heights with Bishop Carl L. Russell officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Wayne Porter, Bennie Stallings, Dexter Lawrence, Steven Dillard, Oliver Allen and Frank Jackson.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville, Mo. was in charge of arrangements.
