Cary Williams

Cary Ely Pankey Williams, 92, of Gideon, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at her residence.

Born Dec. 16, 1912, in Kennett, daughter of the late Hugh Ballard and Clyde Ely Pankey, she attended the University of Missouri. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Malden, Mo., a founding member of the Gideon and Portageville, Mo. Public Libraries, a member of the Humane Society and she worked for Head Start.

On June 23, 1931, in Blytheville, Ark., she married Maxwell Williams, who preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1997. She was also preceded in death by one son, Hugh Pankey Williams; one daughter, Harriet Maxwell Ewing and one granddaughter, Melissa Ewing.

Survivors include three grandsons, John Brent Ewing and David Overton Ewing, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Alexander Dorr Ewing, of St. Louis, Mo.; one great grandson, Dylan Christopher Ewing, of Kansas City and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Harriet Ewing, of St. Louis.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Malden with the Rev. Jocelyn VanBuskirk officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.

Memorials may be made to the American Humane Society.

Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
