James Paul Gardner, 51, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2005, at his residence.

Born Oct. 15, 1954, at Poplar Bluff, Mo., he was the son of Earline McBride Miller of Poplar Bluff, and the late Robert Eugene Gardner. He graduated from Campbell High School and from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau with a degree in industrial technology. He owned Mid-America Carpet & Upholstery, was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Caruthersville and served on the Board of Deacons.

On March 25, 1989, in Blytheville, Ark., he married Sharon Dee McLeod, who survives.

Other survivors are a daughter, Sharon Gardner of Caruthersville; one son, Graham Gardner, of Caruthersville; two brothers, Robert Franklin Gardner of Glen Burnie, Md., and Dr. John David Gardner of Caruthersville; step-mother, Brenda Gardner of Tumbling Shoals, Ark., and step-brothers and sisters, Leah, Mark and Derek.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Dr. Kirwin Stewart officiating.

Burial was in Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Don Smith, Bill Reno, P.G. Maners, Ben Counce, Anthony Hartsfield, Lee Bethune and Parker Mehrle.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of services.
