Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, the program celebrates the nation's top high school seniors who best exemplify a well-rounded "citizen-scholar-athlete."
Two seniors at Kennett High School have been honored with a nomination for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Paul Harris and Alyna Palmer were selected because they best exemplify a well-rounded, "citizen-scholar-athelete."

The promising luminaries defined "citizen-scholar-athelete" by displaying above average academic aptitude, athletic talent and exceptional commitment to their communities.

"We believe it is important to celebrate success in all facets of life," said principal Ed Siebenhuener.

Archie Griffin, the only two-time winner of the prestigious Heisman Memorial Trophy and program spokesperson for the coveted award, Harris and Palmer were nominated for, agrees that the students successes are tremendous and that they are, "truly in a league of their own," going above and beyond expectations to help those in need, enhance their education and pursue their dreams.

Paul Harris is the son of Victoria Bodkin and Greg Harris of Kennett, he is a member of the Senath Church of Christ, National Honor Society, K-Club, Football, Baseball, and Choir. He has received awards to include, but not limited to, "Best Male Vocalist" and the number one rating at state in addition to being "All District" in grades nine through eleventh. Harris strives to set the bar in academics and sports and stands by his faith through his church involvement.

Equally involved and successful is Alyna Palmer, the daughter of Bill and Kathy Palmer of Kennett. She is a member of the First Baptist church youth group, and is involved in the Alpha Omega Society which is made up of youth who want to take a stand for their religious beliefs and make a difference within their world and communities. Palmer's athletic involvement includes track, basketball, and soccer in which she was voted "All District" her junior year. She is additionally involved in Key Club, Pep Club, Choir, K-Club, Girl Scouts, and a member of National Honor Society.

Both students were excited about their recent nominations and look forward to what their promising future holds.
