Born July 21, 1927, in Bellville, Ark., son of Ray and Myrtle Gray Payne, he was a U.S. Army veteran.
On Oct. 9, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Evelyn Harder, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Garry Glen and Danny Lynn Payne and one brother, Donald Payne.
Survivors include four sons, Russell Payne, of Kennett, Joe Payne, of Rives, Loyd Payne, of Atlanta, Ga., and Bryan Payne and wife, Tammy, of Lafayette, La.; one daughter, Sherrie Lynn and husband, Mike, of Cooter, Mo.; four brothers, Lee Doyle Payne, of Russellville, Ark., and Kenny, Charles and Terry Payne, all of Rives; eight grandchildren, Angie Blankenship, of Steele, Mo., Lori Adkisson, of Blytheville, Ark., Grey Payne, of Gulf Shores, Ala., Loyd Heith Payne, of Johnsonville, S.C., Chad Payne, of Kennett, Jenna Lynn, of Cooter, and Kevin and Kylie Payne, of Lafayette and five great-grandchildren, Colbey and Kyler Payne, of Manila, Ark., Easton Blankenship, of Steele, Chole Payne, of Kennett and John Alan Adkisson, of Blytheville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Bro. John Dunavant officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were David Daniels, Larry Conely, Danny Davis, Randy Pruitt, Terry Scott and Greg Gillette.
