Matilda Anna Dowdy, 88, of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Aug. 11, 1917, in Dexter, Mo., daughter of the late Bert Jackson Jones and Andrea Sornsen Jones, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
On Dec. 14, 1934, in Malden, she married David Dowdy, who preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1993. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Pearly Walton; one grandson, Arthur B. Emily; two brothers, Paul and Gerald Jones; two sisters, Ella Mae Roach and Virgie Dowdy and several great-grandchildren.
Matilda was a special lady and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a loving and devoted mother-in-law, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by a son-in-law, Walter Walton, of Malden; four grandchildren, Audie Emily and Anna Declue, of Potosi, Mo., and David and Gloria Emily, of Poplar Bluff, Rose Lawson (Emily), of St. Louis, Mo., James Emily and Sara Rapien, of Malden; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Jones, of Australia and Sam Jones, of Pollard, Ark., and many nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her four grandchildren of St. Louis County; her grandson of Potosi and niece, Erna Macalusso of Malden.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Donald E. Lawson of Farmington, Mo., who she loved like a grandson, will perform the funeral services.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
