Rev. Jean "J.C." Cassell Smith, 88, of Pocahontas, Ark., formerly of Kennett, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born in Sharp County, Ark., son of the late Joseph L. and Frances A. Smith, he was a former pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Kennett, Immanuel Baptist Church in Newport, Ark., the Baptist Church in Imboden, Ark., First Baptist Church in Dell, Ark., and Spring Lake Baptist in Ozark Acres.
Survivors include his wife, Berneda Smith, of Pocahontas; three sons, Philip Smith, of Pocahontas, Mark Smith, of Jonesboro and Rev. Herschel Smith, of Marquette, Mich.; Rebecca Parrish, of San Antonio, Texas and Vicki Smith, of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Orman Smith, of Little Rock, Ark., and Joe Smith, of Conway, Ark.; three sisters, Orpha Frey, of Williford, Ark., Paulin Howard, of Little Rock and Ruth Withkowski, of Manassas, Va., and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Willmuth.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Heath Oak Hill Chapel in Hardy, Ark.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Hardy with Bros. Farrell Duffell, Ron Berry and Marvin Russell officiating.
Burial will follow at the Baker Cemetery in Ozark Acres.
