Betty Mathis

Betty Powers Mathis, 68, of Steele, Mo., died Sept. 1, 2005, at Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Oct. 16, 1936, in Gosnell, Ark., daughter of the late Virgil and Minnie Conner Powers, she was employed at Bibbs Trucking.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Mathis, of Hayti, Mo., and Greg Mathis, of Steele; one daughter, Vicki Sears, of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Bonnie Spooner and Karen Parmes, both of Steele and Beth Johnson, of San Springs, Okla.; three brothers, Charles Powers, of Wappapello, Mo., Frank Powers, of Sikeston, Mo., and Steve Powers, of Steele and six grandchildren, Candice Mathis, of Hayti, Kevin Sears, of St. Louis, Mo., Eric and Justin Sears and Greg Mathis, all of Springfield and Jennifer Ray, of Steele.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy "Skeeter" Powers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 2, at the Bradshaw Powell Funeral Home in Steele.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Bradshaw Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dave Lewelling officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
