Betty Long, 77, of Oxford, Miss., died Friday, August 20, 2005, at her home.
Born August 28, 1927, at Braggadocio, Mo., daughter of the late Merritt E. "Tim" and Clara Alma Cagle Gibbs, she attended school at Braggadocio and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church at Memphis, Tenn.
On June 1, 1947, she married Bob R. Long, a banker and presiding county commissioner. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Long Strider of Oxford; two sons, Richard Leslie Long of Dallas, Texas and Charles F. Long of Oxford; four grandchildren Lauren Strider Massey of Oxford, Henry Clarence Strider IV of Philipp, Miss., Matthew Leslie Long of Dallas, and Bethany Allison Long of Memphis.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 22, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with Mr. Steve McKaskle officiating.
Burial was in Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Ryder M. Gibbs, Henry C. Strider Iv, Matthew L. Long, Jed Simpson, John Massey and Charles E. Long.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Albert Faris, J.D. Andrews, Joe Dale Long and Robert Cantrell.
