Robert Johnson

Robert "Big Bob" Johnson, 44, of Kennett, formerly of Hayti, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Feb. 20, 1961, in Ripley, Tenn., son of Grace Steele Johnson and the late I.J. Johnson, he owned and operated Big Bob Barbecue in Hayti and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Congregational.

On Nov. 25, 1982, he married Dorothy Seals, who survives.

Survivors also include two step-daughters, LaTanya Seals, of Kennett and Sherry Seals, of St. Louis, Mo.; his mother, Grace Johnson, of Hayti; six sisters, Ceolar Jones, of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mary Jones and husband, Jesse, and Patricia Johnson, all of Memphis, Tenn., Gloria Blackman and husband, Charles, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Laura Johnson, of Hayti and Rose Johnson, of West Memphis, Ark.; four brothers, Samuel Johnson and wife, Brenda, of Ripley, Tenn., Willie Johnson and wife, Drusilla, of Chicago, Ill., Timothy Johnson and wife, Murleen, of Columbus, Ohio and Thomas Johnson and wife, Diane, of Alpharetta, Ga., and four granddaughters, Jenis, Alyssa, Alexis and N'dia Seals.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Hayti with Bishop Carl Russell and Rev. Darion Thomas officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Jerry Borders, Henry Hudson, Jamie Jones, Kevin Franks, Charles Lloyd and Walter Jones.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
