Ruby Jewell Gates, 88, of Campbell, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at her residence.
Born May 20, 1917, in Cardwell, Mo., daughter of the late Frances Elige and Vandelia Purcell, she was the operator of her own beauty shop in Campbell, Mo. and a member of the Happy Corner Pentecostal Church in Leachville, Ark.
She was married to H.W. Austin from 1935 to 1966. Later she married Harry B. Gates on March 10, 1977 in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1984.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Norma Jean Austin, Tildia Lou Austin; two sons, Archie Eugene Austin and Buddy Carroll Austin; one step-son, Marvin (Joy) Lee Austin; two sisters, Vilioa Purcell and Onia Acord and one step-brother, Alex McFarlin.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Sharley of Campbell; one grandson, Fred Sharley and wife, Donna, of Fruitland, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Dustin Sharley, Brandi Riddell and husband, Mike, and Crystal Garner, all of Campbell; one great-great-grandson, Whayle Riddell of Campbell; one step-grandson, Terry Prince of Orlando, Fla.; one step-daughter, Cloe Potter of Hesperia, Calif.; two brothers, James Purcell and wife, O'Vetta of Michigan and Charlie Purcell and wife, Bonnie, of Leachville, Ark.; two sisters, Mytral Richter of Gainville, Ga. and Rosa Shirley of Steele, Mo.; and three step-sisters, Sara Baker of Monette, Ark., Vergeteen Jones of Michigan and Mavis Low of Michigan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005 at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell, Mo. with the Rev. Jim Holt officiating.
Interment will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, Mo.
Landess Funeral Home of Campbell was in charge of arrangements.
