Gene Clayton, 72, of Jonesboro, Ark., formerly of Wardell, Mo., died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at St. Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro.
Son of the late William Henry and Letena Clayton, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and a CPA. he was a member of the Jonesboro Optimist Club, the Arkansas and Missouri Society of CPA's and a member of the Nettleton Baptist Church. He served on the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army and the Nettleton School Board.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Clayton, of the home; one daughter, Angela Cooper, of Jonesboro; one son, Barry Clayton, of Jonesboro; three sisters, Norma Leach, of Dyersburg, Tenn., Rose Medlin, of Wardell and June Laughlin, of Sturgis, Ky.; one brother, Dewight Clayton, of Caruthersville, Mo.. and four grandchildren, Amber Paige Bond and Jacy Ann, Clayton Alan and Mason Daly Cooper.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 28, at the Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Nettleton Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Ballard officiating.
Burial will follow at the Nettleton Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jim Isbell, Don Neil, Dale Miller, Greg Cooper, Ira Pierce and Royce Leonard.
Honorary pallbearers are Bob Mooneyham, George Williamson, Charles Campbell, Billy Joe Emerson, Charles Stephens, Ron White, members of the Men's #3 Sunday school class and members of the Optimist Club.
