Johnny Smith

Johnny James Smith, 82, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare in Malden.

Born Dec. 6, 1922, in Marion Ill., son of Hawk and Daisy Owens Smith, he was a U.S. Army veteran and received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, four Bronze Battle Stars, two Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a maintenance worker at A.O. Smith.

He married Betty Jane Burr, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Karen Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Risinger and husband, Roy, of Malden; two sons, Johnny Smith II, of Garden Grove, Calif., and Carl Allan Smith and wife, Kathy, of Bourbonnais, Ill., and six grandchildren, Jodie Noe, Jared Risinger, Johnny Smith III, Ryan, Nicole and Jay Smith.

A private family memorial service was held.

Burial was in the Otterbein Cemetery in Brookport, Ill.

Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
