Ethel Phillips, 77, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Knoxville.

Born Dec. 26, 1927, in Arkadelphia, Ark., daughter of the late Erich Venhart Achterberg and Gretchen Leona McWherter, she was of the Lutheran faith.

On Dec. 4, 1944, she married James Clifton Phillips, who preceded her in death on July 5, 1999. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Alma Lee Jones.

Survivors include one son, Tom Phillips and wife, Connie, of Knoxville; one daughter, Leona Wilder and husband, Ray, of Kennett; two grandchildren, Stacy and James Phillips and one great-grandchild, Abigail McKinney.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett with Sister Lee Weeks officiating.

Pallbearers were Mike Parrent, Allen Jones, Terry Parrent, Lanny Jones, Bill Jones, Robert Meeker and Mark Parrent.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
