Bertha M. Smith, 93, of Kennett, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Mo.
Born March 4, 1912, in Formosa, Ark., she was the daughter of the late William Jackson Bonds and Caledonnie Hutson Bonds Lewallen.
On Jan. 4, 1930, she married Loren Edward Smith, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1996. She was also preceded in death by one son, Lynn Edward Smith; one daughter in infancy; three brothers, William, Bob and Luke Bonds and three sisters, Bessie Bowling, Flossie Owen and Mary Sloan.
Survivors include one daughter, Geraine Gurley and husband, Phil, of Kennett; four grandchildren, Phil Dee Gurley and wife, Connie, Mark Smith and wife, Tonya and Kim Hughes and husband, Jackie, all of Kennett and Susan Burgess and husband, David, of Jonesboro, Ark.; and six great-grandchildren, Breanna Gurley, Adam Burgess, Jared and Jeremy Hughes and Collin and Ashlyn Smith; a daughter-in-law, Donna Richardson, of Kennett and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, April 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. David Burgess officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Homer Swain, Charles Isbell, Don Harris, Tommy Noah, Loran Weaver and Steve Stephens.
