Glenn W. Wilcoxson, 81, of Kennett, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born July 29, 1923, in Greene County, Ark., a son of the late Cletis Wilburn and Georgia Z. Wilcoxson, he grew up at Walcot, Ark. and was valedictorian of his high school class. He attended Arkansas State University and East Texas State College. He served in the 99th Army Infantry Division in World War II until his capture at the Battle of the Bulge, for which he earned the Purple Heart. Upon his release, in partnership with his father and brother, Bill, started Wilcoxson and Sons Furniture Co. at Gideon, Mo.

Shortly afterward he met and married Evelyn Lois Jones of Gideon, who survives. They were married 57 years.

Also surviving are sons, Gary and his wife, Cheryl, Ron and his wife, Angela and Daryl and his wife, Vickie; grandchildren: Shannyn Wilcoxson, Chris Wilcoxson, Doug Wilcoxson and wife, Melanie, Ashley Wilcoxson, John Wilcoxson, Josh Wilcoxson, David Wilcoxson and Kathryn Wilcoxson; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Elyse Wilcoxson, many other close relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, Edward and Bill and two sisters, Nell and Vonda.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, April 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Kennett.

Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.
