James E. Alexander, 85, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Feb. 26, 1920, in Milledgeville, Tenn., son of the late James Leonard and Cora Olena Hughes Alexander, he was a U.S. Army Air Force and Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Cooter Methodist Church, Caruthersville Masonic Lodge No. 461 AF & AM, Hornersville Chapter No. 523, Springfield, Mass. Masonic Lodge, Huntington, Mass. Federal Lodge, Dyersburg/Newbern, Tenn. Order of the Eastern Star No. 164, an honorary member of the Springfield, Mass. Eastern Star Chapter No. 143, a Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans in the state of Mass, a member of the Melha Shrine and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On Sept. 26, 1945, in Sylesbury County of Bucks, England, he married Marion martin, who preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1990. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one son, Geoffrey Alexander and wife, Susan, of Granby, Mass.; one daughter, Marilyn Alexander, of Agawam, Mass.; two brothers, Paul Alexander, of Cooter, Mo., and Wayne Alexander, of Steele, Mo.; three grandchildren, Rebecca Alexander, of East Longmeadow, Mass., and Nathan and Daniel Alexander, of Granby and one great-granddaughter, Liberty Anne Conlin, of East Longmeadow.

Memorial services were held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Cooter Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Hargraves officiating.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville, Mo. was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Food Pantry Program in Steele, Mo.
