Born July 13, 1934, in Paragould, Ark., son of the late Joseph Leonard and Verna Inez Greenway McKinney Higgins, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. He was a self-employed truck driver.
On June 13, 1992, in Clarkton, he married Judy Darlene Mikel, who survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Nanette Smith, of Kirkwood, Mo.; one step-daughter, Tracy Walker, of Clarkton; three brothers, Jerry McKinney, of Truman, Ark., Max Higgins, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Hoyt Higgins, of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Hatie Emery, of Paragould, Vicky Prince, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Cathy Barnett, of Scott City, Mo., and four grandchildren, Dustin and Sam Smith and Ashley and Jonathan Walker.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerald Higgins; one sister, Charlene Jones and his step-father, George McKinney.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Jack Allen officiating.
Burial was in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton.
