Born Nov. 23, 1924, at Pollard, Ark., son of the late Charles Lawrence and Stella Ethel Milton Runnels, he was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, and was employed at the California Highway Department. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 418 of Salem and was of the Assembly of God faith.
On June 28, 2003, in Mountain Home, Ark., he married Norma Irene Burcher, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Larry Runnels and wife, Martha, of Oakley, Calif.; three step-sons, Kenneth Chambers and wife, Melody, of Evansville, Ind., Leslie Chambers and wife, Cindy, of Fort Bragg, Calif., and Arthur Chambers and wife, Dennette, of Sebastopol, Calif.; two daughters, Rebecca Stansfield and husband, Keith, of California and Patricia Alden, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two step-daughters, Lori Chambers, of Fort Bragg and Wendy Chambers, of Sebastopol; one sister, Thelma Schlenker, of Murphysboro, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 15, at the Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Campbell, Mo.
