Hughes Cowley

Hughes Cowley, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Steele, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

Born Dec. 11, 1921, in Pocahontas, Ark., son of the late Homer Cowley and Maxie Carter, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII and a farmer. He as a member of the First Assembly of God in Steele.

He married Winnie Vastie Goggans, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, Hughes Ray Cowley and wife, Ruth, of Pipe Creek, Texas; one brother, Norman Cowley, of Steele; one sister, Cassie Reed, of Pocahontas; five grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the Bradshaw Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with the Rev. Charles Clark officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele.
