Born Aug. 6, 1928, in Pinson, Tenn., son of the late Clyde and Lora Harvey Smith, he was a U.S. veteran, having served in WWII and the Korean War. He was a river boat pilot, owner and operator of Smith Towing Service and a member of the American Legion.
On Sept. 11, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Doris Jean Cole, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, David Smith, of Cooter, Mo.; five grandchildren, Harold J. Smith and Valerie Green, both of Caruthersville, Blake and Sarah Boling, both of Manila, Ark., and Andria Cole Smith, of Yazoo City, Miss. and five great-grandchildren, Alexis Ann and Hayley Kyle Smith and Connor D. and Brianna Green, all of Caruthersville and Madison Smith, of Yazoo City.
He was preceded in death by one son, William Joseph Smith.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville with the Revs. Jim Pemberton and Randy Clark officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele, Mo.
Pallbearers were David Quinn, Ronnie Price, Nick Green, Donald Dial, Kenneth Beck, Donald Markham and Johnie Linsman.
Honorary pallbearer was Texas Forrester.
