James Meredith

James Willie Meredith, 86, of Kennett, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Born June 28, 1918, in Brighton, Ark., son of the late Plummer and Emmiline Edwards Meredith, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII.

On April 17, 1953, he married Rosalee Blockwell, who preceded him in death. In 1981 he married Gracie Morrison, who survives.

Survivors also include one brother, P.T. Meredith, of Delaplaine, Ark.; one sister, Sadie Ora McElhaney, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn McKillips and Maudie Stevens.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Charles James officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Joe, Gene, Charles and Robbie McElhaney and Roger and J.D. Easley.
