Born Sept. 19, 1938, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., son of Vernice Brooks and the late George Russell Brooks, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a Master Mason from Memphis Lodge # 118. He was an accountant for Weyerhaeuser Company in Hot Springs, Ark., and a supervisory agent for the Office of Thrift Supervision with Federal Home Loan Bank in Dallas, Texas.
Survivors include one son, Lt. Col. Robert A. "Tony" Brooks and wife, Gloria, of Columbus, Miss.; one daughter, Terri L. Stovall and husband, Matthew, of North Little Rock, Ark.; his mother, Vernice Brooks, of Cordova, Tenn.; one sister, Anna Margaret Averill, of Cordova and six grandchildren, Blake A., Ashley J., and Chase W. Brooks, all of Columbus and Mary Alice, Samuel Brooks and Anna Mari Stovall, all of North Little Rock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Dr. Ralph Bruce officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville, Mo.
Pallbearers were Matt and Todd Stovall, Tom Averill, Johnny Moore, David Barkovitz and Tony Brooks.
