Rufus Lee Amerson, Sr., 52, of Steele, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born June 21, 1952, in Caruthersville, Mo., son of the late Willie and Mary Grace Tyler Amerson, he was a farm worker and a member of the Voice of Zion Church.
On March 3, 1995, in Rock Island, Ill., he married Janice Jones, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Cheryl Carter, of Columbia, Mo.; three sons, Don Amerson and Rufus Sanders and wife, Jessie, all of Steele and Rufus Lee Amerson, Jr., of Riveria, Fla.; six step-children, Lachanda Jones and Laksha Jacobs, both of Steele, Roosevelt Jones and Mazic Jacobs, both of Riveria and David and Jimmy Jacobs, both of Springfield, Mo.; four sisters, Dorothy Lovelady and Annie C. Harris and husband, Larry, all of Rock Island and Diane Covington and husband, Harold and Sylvia Waddlington and husband, Henry, all of Steele; five brothers, Willie Joe Amerson, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Larry Anderson and wife, Mary, Ralph Amerson and wife, Daisy and Leon Amerson, all of Caruthersville and Brodie Amerson, of Rock Island and 23 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jewel Amerson and Olivia Amerson and two brothers, Tommy Lee and Ronnie Amerson.
