Robert Powell

Robert Lynn Powell, 73, of Cottonwood Point, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born Sept. 6, 1931, in Cottonwood Point, son of the late Felix and Mary Holt Powell, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a farmer, member of the R-3 School Board, Extension Council, PCA Board, ASCS Committee and the Cottonwood Methodist Church.

On Dec. 17, 1954, in Hernando, Miss., he married Virginia Charlene Murphy, who survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Robert Lynn "Bobby" Powell, Jr. and William Murphy "Speedy" Powell, both of Cottonwood Point; two sisters, Betty Lou Schwartz of Anniston, Ala. and Martha Mae Thompson, of Cottonwood Point; one grandson, William Murphy "Will" Powell II, of Cottonwood Point; three nieces; two nephews and two great-nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church in Caruthersville with the Revs. Dave Lewelling and Kevin Pittman officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville, Mo.

Pallbearers were John Cyde Thompson, Dennis Taylor, Baker Ross, Charles Ross, Bobby Pike and Wayne Speight.

Honorary pallbearers were Dave Jean, James Henry Taylor, buddy Thompson, Mike Wright, Corkey Hunt, G.F. Stanley, James Carl Baker and Joe Gorman.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
