Ulysses W. Clayton, 82, of Wardell, Mo., formerly of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Portageville Nursing Home in Portageville, Mo.
Born Nov. 5, 1922, in Wardell, son of the late William Henry and Lorena Penrod Clayton, he was a grocery merchant, service station operator, farmer and former deputy sheriff.
Survivors include his wife, Dalene "Dee" Clayton, of Wardell; two sons, Michael Clayton and wife, Linda, of Hayti, Mo. and Bill Clayton and wife, Margaret, of Wardell; two daughters, Shelly Fisher and husband, Jake, of Portageville and Diane Hensley, of Wardell; two step-daughters, Judy Acord and husband, Bill and Karen Stoker; two brothers, Eugene Clayton, of Jonesboro, Ark. and Buddy Clayton, of Caruthersville; three sisters, Leilah Medlin, of Wardell, Norma leach, of Finley, Tenn. and June Laughlin, of Sturgus, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville with Dr. James Adams officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Mark Moody, Brad Ledbetter, Danny Hensley, Shawn Young, Lewis Gilmore Jr., Rick White and Matt Clayton.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
