Richard J. "Dick" Wiethan, 79, of Malden, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Dec. 18, 1924, in Oakland, Calif., son of the late Franklin and Freida Meyer Wiethan, he was a U.S. Air Corps veteran, having served during WWII, owner/operator of the KTCB Radio Station in Malden from 1955 to 1976 and was of the Lutheran faith. He was past president of the Malden Chamber of Commerce, member of the Malden Rotary Club, Malden Kiwanis Club and the Bass Masters.
On March 2, 1945, in Montgomery, Ala., he married Margaret E. "Peggy" Meyer, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, James C. Wiethan and wife, Susan, of Bates City, Mo., and two grandchildren, Brian C. Wiethan, of Overland Park, Kan. and Kelli L. Wiethan, of New York City, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Joseph Wiethan, Jr.; one sister, Elizabeth Lilly and one brother, Franklin R. Wiethan.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dunklin County Library in Kennett.
