Betty Jewel Payne, 70, 0f Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Dec. 25, 1933, in Morrilton, Ark., daughter of the late Spurley and Delia Greenlaw Payne, she was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Malden, Mo.

Survivors include five daughters, Ann Payne and Dorothy Taylor, both of Champaign, Ill., Odessa Kimbrough, of Plano, Texas, Brenda Daniels, of Sacramento, Calif. and Ethel Moon, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sons, Alfred and Vernon Payne, both of St. Louis, Mo. and Steve Payne, of Sacramento; two sisters, Effie Walker, of Malden and Teresa Johnson, of Champaign; one brother, Charles C. Payne, of Malden; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ike, Willie, Tollie, West, Eddie, Arthur and U.C. Payne and four sisters, Thedis Chriswell, Arlee Webster, Anna Murl Payne and Christine Payne.

Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Malden with the Rev. Cleveland Brown officiating.

Burial will follow at the Simmons Cemetery in Catron, Mo.
