J.W. Alexander, 81, of Hayti, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at his residence.

Born March 15, 1923, in Steele, Mo., son of the late F.C. and Jessie Fitts Alexander, he was a U.S. veteran, having served in WWII and received 5 Bronze Stars. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hayti and worked for Potashnick Construction Company.

On June 6, 1946, in Clay County, Ark., he married Delia Ferrell, who preceded him in death on May 2, 1997.

Survivors include four children, Jerry Alexander, Bobby Alexander, Ronnie Alexander and wife, Leslie and Sharon Gurley and husband, Dennis, all of Hayti; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Nicholson, Renee Bradford, Gabriel, Aaron Paul and Dylan Gurley, Candice Mathis and Landon, Mandy, Jason and Rachel Anderson and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Landon Alexander, Aaron and Dylan and Gabriel Gurley, Will Bradford and Jackie Overbey.
