Howard Verdier, 83, of Murphy, N.C., formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Murphy.

Born Dec. 27, 1920, in Corning, Ark., son of the late Dee Dee and Lillian opal Esmon Verdier, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII. He was a truck driver and an ordained Baptist deacon.

He married Bertha Mae Green, who survives of the home.

Survivors include one son, Bob Verdier and wife, Diane, of Murphy; one daughter, Pat Fields and husband, Jack, of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Billy Dee Verdier, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one sister, Joann McNamee, of Corning; six grandchildren, Susan Pullis, Scott Michael Verdier, Kimberly Joyce, Kelley Campbell, Cheryl Hudson and Gary Koller and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Sept. 20, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Gary Henson officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
