Hazel James

Hazel Katherine James, 90, of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Born Jan. 12, 1914, in Pocahontas, Ark., daughter of the late Walter Louis and Alice Rose Brown Decker, she was a homemaker, she operated a grocery and a scrap metal business and was a member of the Hayti Pentecostal Holiness Church.

On Jan. 11, 1938, in Deering, Mo., she married Jessie James, who preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1985. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Joe and Homer Decker.

Survivors include five children, Jerry R. James and wife, Judy, of Kennett, Bobby Dean James and wife, Alice, of Hackleburg, Ala., Virginia J. McCoy, of LaMarque, Texas, Mary Mosby, of Memphis, Tenn. and Delores LaValley and husband, Mark, of Reelfoot Lake, Tenn.; one brother, Bob Decker, of California; two sisters, Rachel Decker, of Phoenix, Ariz. and Geraldine Whaley, of Sikeston, Mo.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. Leroy Thornton officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Ron Birmingham, Martin Ray, Wayne Keller, Bob Tabor, John Taylor and Jim Tilmon.
