Elmer Chandler, 88, of Malden, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Malden Nursing and Rehab.
Born July 6, 1916, in Abbott, Miss., son of the late John and Mattie Barnett chandler, he was employed as a school crossing guard at Malden School. He was a member of the Prayer of Deliverance Church of God in Christ and a member of the Masonic Lodge-Mississippi.
He married Annie V. Randle, who preceded him in death on March 5, 1958. In 1961, in New Madrid, Mo., he married Mary Valiant, who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1999. He was also preceded in death by three sons, John Roger, A.C. and Ezell Chandler and two grandsons, Aaron John Towne, Jr. and Chauncey Towne.
Survivors include three sons, Rev. Micheal Chandler, of Memphis, Tenn., James Chandler and wife, Lucy, of Indianapolis, Ind. and Billy Reid, of Malden; seven daughters, Mattie Winfield and husband, Tommy and Jimmie Hollingshead and husband, William, all of Memphis, Elmarie Neely, Stella Towne and husband, Aaron and Ruth Messer, all of Indianapolis and Betty and Margo Reid, both of Malden; two sisters, Stella Heard and husband Tom, of Hamilton, Miss. and Anna Bush, of Indianapolis; 39 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Ivy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden.
