Rev. Verlon "Richard" Reese, 58, of Joplin, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004.
Born Sept. 8, 1945, in Gideon, Mo., son of the late Vernon and Zella Reese, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam war, a minister and senior pastor at Grace Assembly in Oronogo, Mo., a gospel recording artist and song writer.
On Feb. 19, 1994, in Ann-Arbor, Mich., he married Natalie Klein, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three daughters, Barbara JoAnn Wright, of Brighton, Mich., Cassandra Pomroy, of Howell, Mich., and Diana T. LaBuda, of Big Sandy, Mont.; one brother, Marvin Leon Reese, of St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters, Barbara Kendrick, of Elson, Mo., Verna Dean Strong, of Pacific, Mo., Faye Powell, of Maumell, Ark., and Kaye Duck, of Las Vegas, Nev. and nine grandchildren, Jesse, Susan, Audriana, Christopher, Raven, Emilee-Jane, Patrick, Katie and Kyan.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Marlin Reese and one sister, Sylvia Sue Reese.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Grace Assembly Church in Oronogo with Pastors Billy Reese and Denny Calahan officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Stanfield Cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.
Pallbearers were Marvin Johnston, David Welch, Curtis Reese, Jerry Duck, Jr., Bobby Duck and Durran Strong.
Honorary pallbearer was Jesse Reese.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Assembly Church in Oronogo in care of the mortuary.
