Avery Lee Stricklin, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
Born Sept. 8, 1920, in Bernie, Mo., son of the late Lee Roy and Jettie Edith Walker Stricklin, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII and a security guard. He was a member of the Marble Hill Baptist church.
On Sept. 17, 1938, in Campbell, he married Dixie Mae Huff, who preceded him in death on March 12, 1999. He later married Louise Ballard on April 16, 2000, at Poplar Bluff, who survives.
Survivors also include three daughters, Frances Kay Beals, Patsy Sheron Maples and Carolyn Faye Douglas, all of Lakeland, Fla.; three step-daughters, Desma Reno and Welta Garrison, both of Jackson, Mo. and Trish King, of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Zelphia Knight, of Lakeland; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Dawsey Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Bethany Cemetery in Campbell.
