John Davis Townsend, 43, of Columbia, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at University Hospital in Columbia.
Born Jan. 2, 1901, in Malden, son of Theodis and Lula Bell Davidson Townsend, he was a member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Malden.
Survivors include one son, John D. Matthews, of Malden; three daughters, Jaulanda and Jonquinche Matthews, both of Malden and Ashley Townsend, of Parma, Mo.; nine brothers, Jesse, James, Thoodio and Charles "Chuckie" Townsend and Elvis Coleman, all of Malden, J.C. Townsend, of Eudora, Ark., W. C. Eskridge, of Tunica, Miss., Willie Andrew, of St. Louis, Mo. and Leo Townsend, of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Theola and Monia Townsend, both of Malden and Carrie "Lisa" Townsend, of Columbia and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine Washington, Ollie Eskridge and Cynthia Elaine Townsend and one brother, Robert Townsend.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Gene Perkins officiating.
Burial was in the Macedonia Cemetery at Malden.
