James Chester "Monk" Davidson, 68, of Kennett, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Holcomb, Mo., son of the late James E.N. and Nora Mae Bunting Davidson, he was a U.S. Navy veteran.

In January of 1994, in Piggott, Ark., he married Dorothy Wallace, who survives.

Survivors also include three daughters, Tonya Davidson, of Ft. Smith, Ark., Tina Barker and husband, Gary, of Collinsville, Ill. and Tammy Smith and husband, Kenny, of Willow Creek, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Matthew and April Smith and Joshua, Jacob, Miranda, Jeremiah, James and Danyelle Cook and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 6, at the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Matthew Smith, Joshua, Jacob, Jeremiah and James Cook and Terry Fuller.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Smith, Larry Wallace, Charles and Van Fuller, Tommy Masterson, Gordon French, Herman Evans, Carl Faries and Bob Sturgeon.
