Born in Rector, son of the late Finer Wagner and Simon Bookout, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII, a funeral director, retired from Irby Funeral Home, worked part-time for Mitchell Funeral Home and was a volunteer fireman. He was a member of the Rector First United Methodist Church, a member of the Rector Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna Sigsby Bookout; one daughter, Judy Cobb and husband, Larry, of Rector; one son, Jack Bookout and wife, Marilyn, of Marmaduke, Ark.; one step-son, Keith Walker and wife, Shirley, of Springfield, Mo.; one step-daughter, Kendra Lynn Wiedeman and husband, Jim, of Russellville, Ark.; one sister, Irma Thomason and husband, Elmo, of Conway, Ark.; five grandchildren, Cherie Kirklin, Melissa Braden, Tonya Langdon, Jason Cobb and Brad Cobb; two step-grandchildren, Jordan Brittany Wiedeman and Scott Smith and seven great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Tyler Kirklin, Jessie, Simon, Dexter and Austin Cobb and Morgan Langdon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Quanda Shaw Bookout; four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Rector First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jimmy Anderson, C. Ray Miller and Dr. Larry Martineau officiating.
Burial will follow at the Woodland Heights Cemetery near Rector.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Simon and Steve Bookout, Cecil Holifield, Troy Manning and Danny and Roger Mobley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Bookout, Earl Clayton, Junior Gardner, Hughey Linam, Bill Mobley, Don Mosley, Don Parmenter, Steven Sigsby, Richard Simmons, Bill Vangilder, Doyne Webb and Bill White.
