Betty Lou Abbott Pelkey, 60, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti.
Born February 13, 1944, in Hamilton, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Jefferson Orlan and Effie Allen Abbott. She attended the Pascola and Hayti schools and received an associates degree in criminal justice from Mississippi County Community College in Blytheville, Ark. She was employed as a counselor with Dunklin County Family Services in Kennett, Mo.
On November 30, 1991, she married Jerry Pelkey, who survives.
Survivors also include one son, Kenneth McCann, of Hayti; one daughter, Cathy Gibson, of Caruthersville, Mo., three grandsons, Rickey John Hooper and Jason Herron, both of Caruthersville, and Richard Hooper, of Steele, Mo.; three granddaughters, Wendy Estes, of Hayward, Mo., Trisha McCann, of Caruthersville, and Java Taylor, of Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Andrea, Alexus, and Whitney, of Hayward, and Arrianna, of Caruthersville; two brothers, Odis Abbott, of Briar, Mo., and Auther Abbott, of Campbell, Mo.; and one sister, Sue Lyells, of Bragg City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harman, Hollis, and Ottest Abbott, and two sisters, Jessie Lou McWilliams and Ruth Kirkland.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 22, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating.
Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens in Caruthersville.
