Rev. Vernon Reese, 84, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Mo.
Born Nov. 28, 1919, in Holcomb, Mo., son of the late James M. and Liza Marie Price Reese, he was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII and a member of the Malden American Legion Post 293, the Independent Order of Oddfellows (IOOF), and the last living member of the Tatum Chapel General Baptist Church.
On Aug. 7, 1936, in Holcomb, Mo., he married Zella D. Horn, who preceded him in death on June 4, 1990. On June 15, 1991, in Malden, he married Pansy "Pat" Miskell Rubel, who preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2001. He was also preceded in death by one son, one daughter, and three brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin L. Reese, of St. Louis, Mo. and Verlin A. Reese, of Joplin, Mo.; four daughters, Barbara Kendrick, of Eldon, Mo., Verna Dean Strong, of Pacific, Mo., Faye Powell, of Maumelle, Ark., and Kaye Duck, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one step-son, Dennis Crafton, of Medford, N.J.: five brothers, Junior Reese, of Bald Knob, Ark., Kenneth Reese, of Malden, Billy Reese, of Dixon, Mo., Ronnie Reese, of Red Bay, Ala., and Larry Reese, of Georgia; two sisters, Gloretta Halloway, of Jonesboro, Ark., and Doris Tarkington, of Bono, Ark. and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 26, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Graveside services with full military rites will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at the Stanfield Cemetery in Clarkton, Mo. with the Rev. Kenneth Kennedy officiating.
