Charles McGaughy

Charles Edward McGaughy, 55, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Born April 8, 1949, in Hayti, son of the late St. Clair and Hattie Mae McGaughy, he was a Vietnam veteran, and worked for the USDA-Cotton Division. He was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sisters, Ida McGaughy, of Hayti, Margaret Harris and husband, Michael, of Atlanta, Ga., Ruth Malone, of Chicago, Ill. and Sharon Cobbin, of Columbia, Mo. and four brothers, Leo McGaughy and wife, Evelyn and James McGaughy and wife, Mae, all of Chicago, Dennis McGaughy and wife, Carolyn, of Kansas City, Mo. and Embre "Big M" McGaughy, of Hayti.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Sinclair McGaughy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 15, at the Cedar Street Baptist Church in Hayti with the Rev. Darion Thomas officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Rufus Boyd, Leonard Brown, Raymond Edwards, Plessie Eggleston, Henry Kuykendoll, Ernest Stokes and Alonzo Terry.

Honorary pallbearers were Kawana Borders, Carey Guyton, Jeffrey and Michael C. Harris, Lorenzo Jackson, Dennis McGaughy, James Sutton and George Washington.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
