Derwood Walter McFarland, 75, of Cooter, Mo., died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born March 5, 1929, in Halls, Tenn., son of the late Tom W. and May Ethel Richardson McFarland, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired from Blytheville Auto Salvage.

On Aug. 5, 1960, he married Wanda Hooper, who survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Tina McFarland Schrimsher, of Steele, Mo. and Jane Middleton, of Blytheville, Ark.; three sons, Joseph Wayne Middleton and Charles Ray Middleton, both of Steele and Roy Eugene Middleton, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Julia Poole and husband, G.W., of Cooter; four grandsons, Johnathan Schrimsher, Gregory Shane Middleton and Dennis Lynn Perrydore, all of Steele and Trayson Roy Middleton, of Jonesboro, Ark.; six granddaughters, Joie Michelle Allison, of Holland, Mo., Ashley Diane Jackson and Shanna Denise and Rachael Ann Middleton, all of Steele and Angela and Amy Middleton, both of Humbolt, Tenn. and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 20, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home in Steele with the Revs. Randy and Ronald Poole officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele
