Valdia Vandora Hughes, 88, of Huston, Ala., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at her residence.
Born Jan. 27, 1916, in Neelyville, Mo., daughter of the late Ira and Lillie Casteel Wertenberger, she was a homemaker.
She married Jay Thomas Hughes, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Jay L. Hughes, of Huston and Bobby Joe Hughes, of Moulton, Ala.; three daughters, Helen Crow and Kathy Riddle, both of Huston and Jackie Carter, of Corning, Ark.; three brothers, Douglas Wertenberger, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Freeman Wertenberger, of St. Charles, Mo. and Virgie Wertenbertger, of Naylor, Mo.; one sister, Amanda Conway, of Boydsville, Ark.; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 3, at the First Baptist Church in Hayti with the Rev. Mike Melton officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were David and Brad Crow, Ina and Robert Hughes, Jeff Curtis, Terry Kepner, Harold Sadler and David Rainly.
Bradshaw Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
