Virgie Marie Dowdy, 90, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at St. Louis.
Born June 6, 1913, in Coweta, Okla., daughter of the late Bert J. and Andrea Sornsen Jones, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God in Malden.
On Dec. 16, 1932, in Bloomfield, Mo., she married Hershle Dewey Dowdy, who preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1985. She was also preceded in death by five children in infancy; one sister, Ella Mae Roach and two brothers, Gerald and Paul Jones.
Survivors include three sons, Wendell Dowdy, of Festus, Mo., Dawsey Dowdy, of Russellville, Mo. and Jimmy Dowdy, of Granite City, Ill.; three daughters, Shirley Cartt and Sharon Dowdy, both of St. Louis and Iona Bates, of Rome, Ga.; one sister, Matilda Dowdy, of Malden; two brothers, John Jones, of Victoria, Austrailia and Sam Jones, of Piggott, Ark.; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Wampler officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
